
Departmental Honors
Opportunity is provided for qualified chemistry and biochemistry majors to be awarded departmental honors at the time of graduation

As a department, we value excellence in both academics and research. Thus, we will award Honors and Distinctions accordingly:
- Honors in Academics and Research
- Distinction in Academics
- Distinction in Research

Honors in Academics and Research
- Complete research on a novel project in the laboratory of a departmental faculty member for an appropriate amount of time that has been agreed upon with that faculty member.
- Create and submit a complete thesis of ~15 to 25 pages on their original research.
- Review by one additional departmental faculty member required.
- The student candidate must submit their research proposal to two faculty members ~four weeks prior to the end of the semester for review.
- Present their research in one of two options:
- As a poster or oral presentation at a local, regional, or international conference or symposium.
- As a ~15 to 25-minute oral presentation in the Departmental Seminar Series.
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.70 in the major.
Distinction in Academics
Have a minimum GPA of 3.70 in the major.
Distinction in Research
- Complete research on a novel project in the laboratory of a departmental faculty member for an appropriate amount of time that has been agreed upon with that faculty member.
