Minor in Biochemistry

Minor in Biochemistry

Effective Fall 2019

A student may complete a minor in biochemistry by finishing the following course work with grades of “C” or better. (A student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry may not obtain a minor in biochemistry.)

General Chemistry (10 credit hours)

  • CHEM 1401-4: General Chemistry I
  • CHEM 1402-1: General Chemistry Laboratory I
  • CHEM 1411-4: General Chemistry II
  • CHEM 1412-1: General Chemistry Laboratory II

Organic Chemistry (8 credit hours)

  • CHEM 3101-3: Organic Chemistry I
  • CHEM 3102-1: Organic Chemistry I Lab
  • CHEM 3111-3: Organic Chemistry II
  • CHEM 3112-1: Organic Chemistry II Lab

Biochemistry

Select three courses* (9 credit hours)

Students should familiarize themselves with the prerequisite requirements for these courses before pursuing the minor.

  • CHEM 4211-3 Biochemistry (If not taking CHEM 4221/4231)
  • CHEM 4221-3 Biochemistry I (If not taking CHEM 4211)
  • CHEM 4222-3 Biochemistry Laboratory
  • CHEM 4231-3 Biochemistry II (If not taking CHEM 4211)
  • CHEM 4232-3 Advanced Techniques in Biochemistry
  • CHEM 4261-3 Advanced Biochemistry
  • CHEM 4502-3 Bioanalytical Techniques
  • CHEM 4701-3 Biophysical Chemistry
  • CHEM 4711-3 Bioinorganic Chemistry
  • CHEM 4721-3 Biochemistry of Drugs
  • CHEM 4731-3 Bioinformatics
  • CHEM 4741-3 Protein Structure & Function
  • CHEM 4751-3 Biochemistry of Human Health and Development

*Students pursuing a B.S. in Biology must select courses that are not part of their degree program requirements in order to complete a biochemistry minor.
