Biographical Information

Dan obtained his M.Sc. degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Canada) where he studied the tandem oxy-Cope/ene reaction as applied to the synthesis of natural products, including the total synthesis of (+)-Arteannuin M. He subsequently spent over 15 years as a medicinal chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, where he was involved in a number of Virology, Neurosciences, Cardiovascular and Oncology projects. During that time, he contributed to the identification of several clinical candidates, as well to the discovery of Daclatisvir, which is a currently marketed drug for the treatment of hepatitis C (HCV). Dan is a co-inventor on more than 15 issued patents and a co-author of several publications in peer-reviewed journals. Prior to teaching at UCCS, Dan taught general chemistry at Champlain College and Dawson College in Montreal, Canada. When not teaching organic chemistry at UCCS, Dan enjoys spending time with his family, playing guitar, and woodworking.
